Creating a Zen Space
Let’s face it - the busy hours of the day often seep into the evening and it is hard to escape from the hustle and bustle. Coming home from a long day should feel like entering your sanctuary. However, you need to ensure your space gives off that relaxed and stress free energy.
There are a few simple ways to make the home more Zen through wall art, paint colour, fabric, and furniture. These elements play an important role in creating a relaxing environment
Here are our quick décor ideas to start adding a little Zen inside the home:
Add Calming Textures
A simple way to bring in Zen into a space (bedroom, living or family room) is to add soft textured cushions. Choose cushions that have muted or unstated tones. Look for natural fabrics, cotton, silk or wool. We love these jacquard weaved cotton cushions from at H&M home. These cushions can add a layer of softness to any couch.
Also consider adding some softness under your feet by adding a soft rug. Choose light shades such as white, light grey, ivory, cream
Soft Lighting to set the Mood
Incorporate soft lighting by simply adding dimmers to set the mood and create a relaxing atmosphere. Dimmers are a must in the bedroom - adjust the lighting to a low setting to help whine down before bed.
Scented candles are another great way to add layers of soft lighting into any room. We love scented candles from Sand + Fog – they have wide range of scented candles that come in a variety of glass jars and ornate tins. Or visit Home Sense they usually have a unique section of candles to choose from.
Declutter your Space and your Mind
Believe it or not, a declutter spaces helps eases the mind, plus this simple trick makes the space feel open and airy. Invest in some storage baskets to organize and stow away stuff.
Create storage in empty corners to keep everything neat and tidy. Get rid of stuff that is not needed anymore.
The Sound of Music
Think about what relaxes you. Whether it’s cozying up to a book, or nice cup of tea. Ensure the space is a spot where you can enjoy whatever help makes you unwind.
What relaxes me is Music! So I have my google home set up in the space I like to unwind. I can easily ask google to play a “chill” playlist. I also have a vinyl record player setup if want to go old school with the tunes.
Go Green
Adding greenery helps bring a sense of nature into the home. Completes the overall Zen look. There is something in nature’s beauty that helps boost the mood and it a great way to naturally purify the air inside the home.
Afraid of not able to keep a plant alive? Try to go for succulents – they are very low maintenance and they come in beautiful shapes and sizes.
Toned down Earthy and Air Colours
Finally, adding layers of colour that lean towards, white, light gray, and beige. You can add these earth tones through drapes, furniture and or artwork to bring together that zen vibe. These colours go a long way and are neutral – so that it is easier to decorate the space.
Finally, sit back and enjoy!
